Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Overview
Log Later is a read-it-later platform that helps you save, organize, and read articles. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about the data we collect. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Data We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is hashed using scrypt and is never stored in plain text.
Saved Content
When you save articles, we store the article URL, extracted content (title, text, images), your tags, reading progress, and notes. This data is necessary to provide the core service.
Usage Data
We collect basic usage metrics such as reading progress and article status (unread, reading, finished, archived) to power features like reading statistics and library filtering. We do not track your browsing activity outside of Log Later.
Device Information
When you use our mobile app, we may collect basic device information (operating system, app version) for debugging and compatibility purposes. We do not collect device identifiers for advertising.
How We Use Your Data
- To provide and maintain the Log Later service
- To authenticate your account and secure your sessions
- To extract, store, and display article content in a clean reading format
- To enable search, filtering, and organization of your library
- To sync your reading progress across devices
- To send transactional emails (password reset, account verification)
- To improve the service based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns
What We Don't Do
- We do not track your browsing history — only pages you explicitly save
- We do not run analytics or tracking in the browser extension
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties
- We do not serve ads
AI-Powered Features
Log Later may offer optional AI features such as article summarization, automatic tagging, and semantic search. When enabled, article text is sent to third-party AI providers (such as Anthropic) for processing. AI features are opt-in and clearly labeled. You can disable them at any time in your settings.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We use third-party infrastructure (database hosting, email delivery) to operate the service. These providers process data on our behalf under strict contractual obligations.
- AI providers: If you opt into AI features, article text is sent to AI providers for processing. No personal account information is shared.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, subpoena, or court order.
Data Security
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database. All data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with scrypt. Session tokens are stored in httpOnly cookies and expire after 30 days. Database access is protected by Row Level Security (RLS) policies, ensuring users can only access their own data.
Data Retention
Your account data and saved articles are retained for as long as your account is active. Archived articles are soft-deleted and can be restored. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data in your account settings
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Export your saved articles and data
- Opt out of AI-powered features at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address below.
Cookies
We use essential cookies only — session cookies for authentication and a theme preference cookie. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics that track you across the web.
Children's Privacy
Log Later is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
Chrome Extension Permissions
The Log Later Chrome extension requests the following permissions, each used for a specific purpose:
- activeTab — Read the URL and title of the page you are saving. Only activated when you click the extension.
- tabs — Detect when the login tab completes authentication so the extension can receive your session.
- storage — Store your session token locally in the browser so you stay signed in.
- contextMenus — Add a “Save to Log Later” option to the right-click menu for quick saving.
- scripting — Capture page content when you save an article, enabling the clean reader view.
The extension does not track your browsing history, run on pages you have not explicitly saved, or collect any data in the background.
